I have a 3 month check up appointment tomorrow and I am not really satisfied with my medication. So far I have tried Ritalin, Provigil/Modafinil, Adderall IR, and now Adderall XR. The Adderall XR doesn't even last that long for me. I can take one at 6 PM and still sleep. Although some days it works better than others. It is never consistent and seem like either it is kind of working but doesn't last long, or I feel crummy and have gross side effects. The other medications were even worse, so I don't want to have to start all over, but I can't help but feel like it could be better. Has anyone else also tried all of these with no luck and found something else that actually worked? I was thinking about Dexedrine. Has anyone tried Dexedrine and Adderall and had negative side effects from the Adderall but not the Dex? Any other suggestions? I also have Baclofen for night time, but I find that it doesn't do much and/or makes me groggier in the AM. Thanks!
Karen
dexedrine is different enough from adderall that yes, it is entirely possible to respond well to one and not the other. while adderall contains regular amphetamine, dexedrine does not-- dexedrine's active ingredient is basically only part of what regular amphetamine is made of. btw, for some people, sometimes a combination of meds works better than all one type of med.
also, i noticed you complained about XR meds-- XR meds can sometimes be tricky because so much can affect the way they're metabolised. (sidenote: i would recommend trying to be strict about taking the XR on schedule, and never taking anything XR that late in the day-- even if you can sleep with it-- because it could be interfering with your sleep in ways that you might not realize). sometimes people take a combination of XR meds and IR meds with the XR to be taken only in the a.m., and the IR as additional boosters to get through the day.
